Biography of Howard Stern

Howard Allen Stern was born in 1954 in a Jewish family on Long Island. His father, radio engineer Ben Stern, instilled in Howard a love and interest in radio from a young age. Howard dreamed of becoming a famous radio host on a rock and roll station. Little did he know that his career as a radio DJ would surpass even his wildest imagination.

After high school, Howard enrolled in Boston University, majoring in Mass Communication. It was there that he hosted his first parody radio show called "The Hour of the Babbling Bagel." Despite a scandal with the university administration and the threat of expulsion, Howard discovered the magic of the radio airwaves through this show. From that moment on, there was no stopping him.

After graduating from university, Howard landed a job as a host on a small radio station in New York City, earning only four dollars an hour. It was here that he honed his skills and gained his first fans and critics. He then bounced between similar small radio stations in Detroit and Hartford until he was finally noticed and invited to join the major radio station "WNBC" in New York.

However, Stern's time at WNBC was short-lived due to his controversial on-air behavior and frequent conflicts with management. He was fired, but by this time, his ratings were so high that he didn't remain unemployed for long. Stern immediately received an offer from a competing organization, the radio station "WXRK."

With the realization of his success, Howard Stern embraced his role as a radio provocateur. He skillfully encouraged listeners to share their "dirty laundry" while also being open about his own. As his personal popularity soared, so did the ratings of the radio station that gave him a platform. Despite frequent fines for his scandalous on-air antics, his employers often turned a blind eye, recognizing the immense success he brought.

The Federal Communications Commission tried to shut down his show multiple times, but closing a program with such high ratings would have been madness. However, in 2004, when the law introduced half-million-dollar fines for indecent behavior on-air, the FCC finally caught up to Stern. His dismissal was scandalous, but he found demand once again, this time at the satellite radio company "Sirius Satellite Radio," which was not subject to federal regulations.

With his signature audacity and willingness to mock everything and everyone, Howard Stern propelled his career to unprecedented heights. Some consider him the most honest radio host in the world, while others feel uneasy at the mention of his name. Meanwhile, Stern has been leading the American radio ratings for over 20 years as the best radio host in the USA. In 2006, Forbes magazine ranked him 7th among the "Most Popular Celebrities."
